Before you buy any particular brand or model, it is important to compare juicers
to ensure you are getting the perfect machine to fit your needs.
Whether you are new to juicing or are an experienced juicer, there are a few things you
can learn about the various categories of juicers and the salient features of each.
Main Types of JuicersNo wonder people get confused when they go shopping for a juicer - there are six main categories of juicers and numerous manufacturers which results in a whole lot of juicing machines to choose from!
With each manufacturer obviously claiming that they make the best juicer no wonder it’s gets confusing when we try to compare juicers.
A little simple research to compare juicers is very helpful. Once you understand the various features and functions, it will be much clearer.
There are six main types of juicers: wheatgrass, citrus, masticating, centrifugal, blender and manual or hand press. Each has its own set of specific features.
Wheatgrass JuicersWheatgrass juicers slowly extract juice from blades of grass using a press method. The slow press action is preferable to high speed extraction because enzymes are not damaged or destroyed by the heat produced at high speeds.
Wheatgrass juicers turn slowly at 80-120 rpm. High speed juicers are not recommended for grasses due to clogging from the high fiber content of grass. Centrifugal high speed juicers oxidize and ruin the enzymes..
When we compare juicers we find that most high speed juicers turn at over 1000 RPM and are damaging to juices extracted from grasses.
Citrus JuicersCitrus juicers are designed to juice specific citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons, limes, tangerines and grapefruits. Many juicers cannot handle citrus components such as seeds, membrane and thick skin.
As you learn more about juicing, you will find that a citrus juicer is a great way to optimize extraction of nutrients available in the fruit. Pectin, soluble fiber that helps lowers high cholesterol, is also extracted by citrus juicers.
Masticating JuicersWith single auger design, masticating juicers are very efficient for juicing most fruits, vegetables and even wheatgrass. This design allows for the crushing of cellular structure and the breaking of fiber so that all nutrition is released into the juice. When comparing juicers you realize that this is a great type machine for those who intend heavy use utilizing a large variety of food types
Centrifugal JuicersCentrifugal juicers are generally the least expensive. These juicers operate in a manner similar to the spin cycle of your washing machine in that the juice is extracted by the high speed spinning. Centrifugal juicers work well with fruits and vegetables, but not for wheatgrass, herbs and leafy greens. The food is grated and then spun to extract the juice.
Blenders JuicersAs you learn more about juicing you will soon realize that blenders are not juicers in the true sense of the word. Blenders macerate foods but do not release nutrients from fiber or separate the juice from pulp. With a blender everything is mixed together and everything is used as opposed to a juicer which extracts the juice leaving behind pulp. A blender will indeed turn a fruit into a liquid state but a juicer will turn that same fruit into a much more nutritious and palatable drink.
Manual Juicers - Hand Press JuicersAs the name implies, manual or hand press juicers require no electricity. Pressure is applied manually to extract juice from vegetables, fruits and some grasses.
Very simple to operate but requires fruit to be chopped into small pieces and vegetables to be either shredded or chopped into small pieces. One advantage to manual presses is that they make very dry pulp.
Information is King – Knowledge is Power . . .. . . and if you compare juicers you will benefit financially as your first buy is the right buy. Learning about juicers and their features helps you knowledgably compare juicers to ensure you purchase the best juicer machine that will provide quality performance for years to come.
Essential readingWheatgrass Juicers
Wheatgrass is the term for the young grass of the wheat plant Triticum aestivum. When placed in high speed juicers, the heat that is generated damages or completely destroys the valuable enzymes contained within these grasses. . . . . .
Citrus juicers are the optimal tool for juicing oranges, tangerines, grapefruit, lemons and lime. These juicers are specially designed to handle the seeds and membrane as well as the thick citrus skin that most other machines cannot handle. . . . .
Masticating juicers are credited with extracting juices at slower speeds that enable the juicer to produce more efficiently with a higher nutrient content. The lower speed also minimizes oxidation which is known to damage or destroy enzymes contained in the juice. . . . .
Centrifugal type juicers, juicer reviews tell us, are one of the oldest and most simply designed of all juicers. These juicers simply shred and strain the fruits or vegetables to obtain the juice. . . . .
With this simple concept of a blender juicer, you can first extract the wonderful juicers from your favorite fruits and vegetables. Then add the ice, milk, and yogurt, and you'll have an instant smoothie . . .
What Is a Steam Juicer? It's taken a bit of time, but today as the world becomes more aware of what a steam juicer is and how it works, these juicers are quickly growing in popularity.
A lemon juicer is a small, handheld juicer that you can quickly use to extract the juice from lemons, limes, oranges and other small citrus fruits. It is very convenient, but it's also very inexpensive.
No one tomato juicer will work for everyone because not everyone wants the same results from their tomatoes. For example, if you want juice and not tomato paste, you probably want an electric tomato juicer that will also work with other fruits and vegetables. However . . .
When looking at vegetable juicers, you will look for many of the same qualities that you would look for in any other gadget - reliability, performance, quality etc. however there are some specific features you will want your veggie juicer to have. . . . .
